Msalais: A Wine Design Inspired by Xinjiang Culture

Integrating Avati's Image into a Timeless Wine

Inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Xinjiang, the Msalais wine design by Decelent pays homage to the region's history and promotes national unity.

The Msalais wine design, created by Decelent, draws its inspiration from the Avati grapes of Awati County in Xinjiang. The name "Msalais" translates to grape wine in Uygur, and this design aims to honor the Xinjiang culture while fostering a sense of unity.

The unique properties of the Msalais wine design lie in its clever integration of Avati's image and the vibrant colors that represent the beauty of Xinjiang. The bottle showcases a witty illustration of a wise man, symbolizing the historical figure Avati, known for his kindness, intelligence, and helpfulness. This design not only conveys a positive spiritual outlook but also embodies the moral value of "great national unity."

The realization of the Msalais wine design involves spot-color printing on an aluminum bottle, with the upper part covered by an aluminum film. The bottle has a capacity of 375ml, stands at a height of 255mm, and has a diameter of 184mm.

The interaction with the Msalais wine design is centered around spreading national culture through leisure drinks. The packaging features several color versions that reflect the colorful, sunny, and pure nature of Xinjiang. This conveys the message that happiness is the essence of drinking culture.

The Msalais wine design project commenced in July 2018 and was completed in September 2018. The design process took place in Shenzhen, with proofing in Shanghai and production in Xinjiang province.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was achieving the desired vibrant colors for the packaging. The original bottle spray colors did not meet the requirements. To overcome this, the design team decided to print on shrinkable film in spot color, resulting in the desired brightness and saturation.

As a winner of the Bronze A' Packaging Design Award in 2019, the Msalais wine design by Decelent has been recognized for its creativity and ingenuity. This award acknowledges designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
